AM: Commodore Cup 6
 
With a biting ENE'ly wind blowing in at Force 3, 9 intrepid sailors set off for the Arctic.  The 
whole fleet had a safe beat to the first mark (West).  Bob Sampson (Laser) led the fleet with a 
long plane down the course from Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) and Adeney Pooler 
(Graduate).  The rest of the fleet were some way behind by the end of the first lap.  In the 2nd 
lap Bob and Jane maintained their positions with John Savage in his Solo having a great race 
and zooming down to the Dam mark with Stephanie Heasman doing well not far behind in her 
Topper along with John Buckett (Otter), Sue Murray (Topper Topaz) and Roger Heasman in 
the club's Bosun.

PM: Barnwell Cup 7
 
The wind had backed more to the northwest in the afternoon and was bringing some long 
blasts of cold air down the lake in a sporadic fashion, keeping sailors on their toes.  Bob and 
Jane were first away in their Lasers keeping neck and neck up to the West Mark with Adeney 
Pooler not far behind them.  Vicki Duncalf was also keeping them in sight in her Topper and 
just behind John Savage.  Jane managed to take the lead for the first lap, but Bob was able to 
overhaul her in the 2nd, with Adeney still 3rd and John S 4th.  By the end of the 2nd lap Bob 
had about 100m lead over Jane but John Savage had managed to catch up and overtake 
Adeney and this little competition lasted through out the race.  Then John Savage had a 
brilliant final leg down to the finish line with a long, long and private gust which kept him 
planing right down the lake allowing him to take a well deserved first place in the results.  Well 
done John!  The only capsize and drenching was when John Walter, who was assisting 
Christine Marshall as OOD, knocked over her coffee cup (placed on a patio chair and which 
he didn't notice) and attempted to sit down on it!

Roger Heasman and Joe Rudman retired as they suffered shackle problems!
