AM: Commodores Cup 5 On as grey but dry and mild Easter Sunday 10 boats set off for the first race in moderate winds from the northwest. James Pollard, helming the RS200 and with Bob Sampson as his crew, had a great start as did Jane Chadney in her Laser Radial. James soon had his asymmetric spinnaker flying and was really motoring round the course, but found it rather more challenging on the upwind sections (practise makes perfect!!). Everyone had a very enjoyable race and we all met up at the racebox for lunch afterwards and celebrated James' birthday (of yesterday) with chocolate cake, which always perks a sailor up! Results: 1st Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 2nd Steve Axford (Laser) 3rd Jane Chadney (Laser Radial) 4th John Buckett (Otter) 5th James Pollard and Bob Sampson (RS200) 6th John Savage (Solo) 7th Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 8th John Duncalf (Topper) 9th Toby Tobias and Alan Comber (Bosun) 10th John Weller (Laser) 11th Stuart Mealing (Laser Radial) PM: Barnwell Cup 6 The breeze had strengthened slightly in the afternoon and also come round to a more westerly direction. Paul Whybrow (Solo) joined us all for this race, but sadly was over the line at the start and chose not to return despite the horn sounding. However, he had a good race as did everyone else, in slightly more challenging conditions for the first lap, but then the breeze died slightly for the last 2 laps. Jane Chadney and Steve Axford again had good starts, but Jane Anderson managed to sneak up on them on her way round the course to take first place on the calculated result. Results: 1. Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 2. Steve Axford (Laser) 3. Jane Chadney (Laser Radial) 4. Bob Sampson and James Pollard (RS200) 5. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 6. John Duncalf (Topper) 7. Stuart Mealing (Laser Radial) 8. John Savage (Solo) 9. John Weller (Laser) 10. Toby Tobias and Alan Comber (Bosun) Paul Whybrow (Solo) rtd Many thanks to Mary and Mick Carter who manned the race box all day, and to James for his cake (anyone got a birthday next week?).
