AM: Commodore's Cup 4 Lethargy, due to rain, mist, variable wind and the previous days over exertion at canoeing for some dinghy racers, caused the race officers to delay race start. This beneficial act prompted confusion amongst the fleet with several boats leaving the start line early and being re-called. Mike Ford had no such problems and got his Solo moving well to West and Pinkie buoys. Paul Anderson recovering well from his missed start, then took up the lead in his Laser and was never headed for the rest of the race. Simon Veal also a late starter now started to gradually close the gap to Mike with Toby Tobias also moving through well in his Bosun, ahead of the Toppers of John and Vicki Duncalf. Jane Anderson having started last well behind the rest of the fleet, really had her fully rigged Laser motoring and was starting to overtake the other racers as if they were standing still. John Savage, John Buckett and Adeney Pooler were having their own private dual during the first lap with Adeney skilfully managing a wind gust at lap end whilst John retired due to rigging problems. On the second lap Paul substantiated his lead, whilst Simon got past Mike and Jane started to close down Toby for fourth. Adeney unfortunately came to grief during his gybe round Dam Green mark and had to retire. Lap three saw Mike having to detour around the safety boat recovering Adeney whilst Jane was on a creaming run down the lake to the dam. Toby was also sailing magnificently and shining like a beacon on a drear lake day. At the last John Savage who had also sailed well in difficult conditions tried to pass Vicki Duncalf Dam mark. Vicki having the inside line managed to hold him off to the finish line. As a post race note, Mike Ford retired; he would have won on handicap but apparently hit a buoy whilst focussing on a jammed cleat and then failed to do his penalty turn! Results: 1st John Duncalf (Topper) 2nd Paul Anderson (Laser) 3rd Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 4th Simon Veal (Laser) 5th Toby Tobias (Bosun) 6th Jane Anderson (Laser) 7th John Savage (Solo) John Buckett (Otter), Adeney Pooler (Graduate), Mike Ford (Solo) rtd PM: Pursuit Race 1 Pursuit allows for timed start intervals between the boats based on each racers boat and personal handicap combination. Vicki Duncalf in the Topper was away first followed by John Savage's Solo close on her heels, then Mike Ford's Solo and John Duncalf's Topper. Toby in the Bosun and Roger Heasman in the Streaker were supposed to start at the same time, but Roger decided to take an early swim on the start line. The group of faster racers then headed off led by Simon Veal's Laser, Paul Whybrow's Solo and Jane and Paul Anderson's Lasers. A sixty five minute game of catch up then ensued with the racers all enjoying some superb planing moments. Roger Heasman started to catch Toby whilst Simon also started to close down Roger. John Savage got past Vicki with Mike Ford passing them both to lead to the finish, with John staying in a very good second place. In the winning process Mike once again managed to clatter a buoy but this time did the necessary penalty turn! A moment to behold saw Paul Whybrow and Jane and Paul Anderson storming down the lake together towards Dam Green buoy. Paul or Paul (one or the other) nearly impinged themselves on the buoy but skilfully recovered. As the race progressed everybody struggled with gusts of wind with Vicki and Simon both having recovery moments. Simon was mystified as to why he couldn't catch Roger's Streaker in the faster Laser. Return to dry land prompted an outpouring of water from his boat. Question answered, he had left the bung out! Jane Anderson was really happy in getting past Paul's Solo and from shore the moment of the race was John Duncalf's Topper planing beautifully from Zebra to home buoy. Results: 1st Mike Ford (Solo) 2nd John Savage (Solo) 3rd Roger Heasman (Streaker) 4th Simon Veal (Laser) 5th Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 6th John Duncalf (Topper) 7th Paul Anderson (Laser) 8th Toby Tobias (Bosun) 9th Jane Anderson (Laser) 10th Paul Whybrow (Solo).
