AM: Commodore’s Cup 2 Just prior to the start of the race there was a heavy squall and all the race participants huddled in the clubhouse! However the sky lightened and at 12.00pm eleven boats crossed the start line. Jane Anderson was first away, closely followed by Bob Sampson and Stephanie Heasman in the RS 200. John Buckett also made a good start in his Otter, however the wind suddenly dropped and all the boats drifted slowly up the lake on the first of the three laps. At the end of the first lap the fleet was well spread out. Jane Anderson and Bob Sampson were close together, whilst further back the Lasers of Simon Veal, Paul Anderson and Roger Heasman were having a real tussle. On only his second outing Mike Ford was beginning to get to grips with his new Wanderer. The final lap started with Jane Anderson and Steve Axford neck and neck and each engaging all the tactics they could against the other to gain supremacy. Meanwhile Paul Anderson had moved up through the fleet, doing well in his first race of the season. Results: 1st Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 2nd Steve Axford (Laser) 3rd John Buckett (Otter) 4th Jane Chadney (Laser Radial) 5th Bob Sampson and Stephanie Heasman (RS 200) 6th Paul Anderson (Laser) 7th Roger Heasman (Laser Radial) 8th Simon Veal (Laser) 9th John Chandler (Bosun) 10th Mike Ford (Wanderer) John Savage (Cadet) rtd PM: Tamar 2 At the start, the Scorpion and Paul Anderson in his Laser charged past Derek Farnfield who looked to have had a perfect start in his Wanderer. In the process Derek caught a lot of dirty wind, which set him back in the fleet. Paul Anderson was then forced to tack early and looked to have put himself out of contention, but the wind favoured him and he recovered well. A mistake by Paul Whybrow and Steve Axford in the Scorpion cost them and allowed Jane Anderson to round Dam Green at the head of the fleet at the end of the first lap. The Scorpion recovered and passed Jane again on the broad reach to Inlet. Bob Sampson and Stephanie Heasman in the RS were working together well in third place with Paul Anderson closing them down in determined fashion. Meanwhile Roger Heasman was sailing well in fifth place with Vicky Duncalf in sixth . David Harker was also having a good race in the Feva until a sudden gust capsized him. Gradually through the race the wind increased and allowed for some fabulous sailing, much to the angst and envy of the Officers of the Day!
