AM: Sailboat Trophy 3 Neil Wallace, Paul Whybrow and Paul Anderson all got off to a great start, followed by Roger Heasman and Alan Comber as the fleet made its way up to Pinkie in a dropping wind. Sixteen boats had crossed the start line which is a good number, as August is normally one of the quieter months for attendance. After the fleet rounded the Far buoy, the boats headed back towards the dam with Neil Wallace marching further forward in the lead. Roger Heasman was putting up an excellent performance in his Laser to be placed second at the end of the first lap. (This being mainly due to Paul Anderson having been mis-directed and going to West Red instead of West White. Wife Jane was OOD!) Paul Whybrow was also finding a good turn of speed to lay third in his shiny Solo with the fully battened sail. Meanwhile at the back of the fleet John Leveridge in Wayfarer 101, Adeney Pooler and John Buckett were having their own private battle with Adeney finishing the first lap in eleventh, John Leveridge twelfth and John Buckett thirteenth. Stephanie Heasman was sailing well in her Topper despite the light airs. (Toppers really go well in a blow but struggle in a handicap fleet in light airs.) So it was that by the end of the last lap no one had capsized, everyone had behaved themselves and Neil had increased his lead, taken line honours and was in for the 'early bath'. (Namely, lunch!) Results: 1st Neil Wallace and Nicky Buckett (Wayfarer) 2nd Paul Whybrow (Solo) 3rd Derek Farnfield (Streaker) 4th John Buckett (Otter) 5th Roger Heasman (Laser) 6th Roger Ford and Val Shillito (Wayfarer) 7th Bob Sampson and Liz Royal (RS200) 8th Katie Leveridge (Laser Radial) 9th Stephanie Heasman (Topper) 10th Jane Chadney (Laser) 11th Paul Anderson (Laser) 12th Alan Comber and Christine Marshall (Enterprise) 13th Adeney Pooler (Graduate) 14th David Harris (Otter) 15th John Leveridge and Mike Ford (Wayfarer) Jorg Gawrisch (Otter) rtdc PM: Barnwell Cup 6 Eagerness at the start, saw two boats cross the line too early. Derek Farnfield in the Streaker returned at the sound of the penalty horn but alas Neil Wallace and Nicky Buckett in the Wayfarer failed to come back and so were disqualified. This left Liz Royal helming Bob Sampson's RS200 leading at the first Mark with three Lasers hot on their heels. The downwind leg back from Far saw the fleet spread out with Jane Anderson's Laser closing the gap to the RS200. In the middle of the fleet Adeney Pooler in his Graduate and Derek Farnfield in the Streaker were having a close battle for supremacy. At the start of the second lap Jane Anderson took an early tack which paid off as it enabled her to pass the RS200. Derek Farnfield in the Streaker managed to leave Adeney Pooler's Graduate trailing in his wake, whilst Stephen Muller in his Topper was dicing well with John Buckett's Otter and Alan and Christine in the Enterprise. Jane Anderson managed to keep ahead of the RS200 to take line honours, whilst Jane Chadney sailed her Laser very effectively to keep Roger Ford and Val Shillito in their Wayfarer at bay until the finish line. Adeney, having been given duff information by Mike Ford (which enabled John and Mike in the Wayfarer pass him) did an unnecessary penalty turn at Home One on the last lap. (Gamesmanship?)
