AM: Sailboat Trophy 7 A whopping 13 boats went out this morning in a nice breeze from the south. Roger Heasman in his Streaker had a cheeky and successful start and was hotly pursued down to Dam Mark by Vicki Duncalf, Nicky Buckett and husband John (in separate boats). Nicky sadly had to complete a penalty turn on the way there as she clipped Roger's stern. Roger was undeterred and soon took command of the race and was well ahead by the 2nd mark with Steve Axford and Katy Leveridge, both in Lasers, chasing after him. Doldrums at Dam had left the bulk of the fleet bunched and they remained so until the beginning of Lap 2. Steve, meanwhile had wrestled the lead from Roger who still had Katy behind him. The rest of the fleet passed through the line within 2 minutes of each other at the end of Lap 2 and still remained reasonably closely packed. By the middle of Lap 3 Steve had increased his lead, Nicky had overtaken Roger who was still being followed by Katy, Simon had worked hard in his RS200 (borrowed from Bob Sampson), but still remained in 5th position due to spinnaker problems. This group had somehow managed to escape the main fleet and all finished close together but it was another 5 or 6 minutes before the rest of the fleet came home for lunch! Great news for Roger, though, as despite finishing 3rd, he came 1st on handicap! Results: 1. Roger Heasman (Streaker) 2. Steve Axford (Laser) 3. Nicky Buckett (Laser) 4. Katy Leveridge (Laser Radial) 5. John Buckett (Otter) 6. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 7. John Duncalf (Topper) 8. John Chandler (Bosun) 9. Paul Whybrow and John Leveridge (Bosun) 10. Toby Tobias and Leno Pasquale (Bosun) 11. Simon Veal and James Pollard (RS200) 12 Adeney Pooler (Graduate) 13. Alan Comber and John Weller (Enterprise). PM: Tamar Cup 4 With a change of start line and an oscillating wind to keep sailors on their toes, 14 competitors set off for West mark for a slightly different afternoon route. Once again Steve led the pack with the mid-fleet all bunched together, and the 3 Toppers (Sue Murray had turned up for the afternoon race) in their own battle at the back. Steve, Nicky and Simon led the fleet all the way round to the finish, but further back Roger fell out of his boat right in front of the clubhouse, and also went for a dip later on, Alan and John in the Enterprise were determined to do better than the morning result and were having a good race in 6th position. Adeney was gallantly bringing up the rear. Roger suddenly got his act together, and made his way up to finish 5th, and Adeney did well and finished 9th, but the day went to Roger who despite all his escapades managed to finish 2nd on handicap to Steve's 1st place. Adeney Pooler (Graduate) Many thanks to John Savage, still recovering from his stay in hospital, who helped me man the Race Box all day and put the flags up (and down!) and the appropriate moments. And well done and thanks to everyone who turned up to give us all such a good racing day. Jane Anderson
