Minute's Silence in Memory of Rob A founder member, previous Commodore and club stalwart, Rob Eason died peacefully earlier this week. Rob's wife Ragna laid flowers on his red Wayfarer and club Commodore Nicky Buckett paid tribute to Rob's tireless efforts as club bosun, followed by a minute's silence. Club members will miss Rob greatly and cherish memories of him standing at the helm of his boat and chasing down the fleet. AM: Cup Race 6 In a fickle northerly wind, Jane Anderson was first away in the Laser Radial, closely followed by Vicky Duncalf in her Topper and Neil Wallace and Nicky Buckett in the Wayfarer. Stephanie Heasman sailing a Topper for the first time and unused to a boat with rear main sheeting, made a leisurely start! John Savage in the Solo lost a sail batten at the start and in getting it back into the sail, started some way behind the rest of the fleet. The race developed into a very close battle at the front between Neil's Wayfarer and Jane's Laser radial with the proverbial "gloves off" and no quarter being given by either boat. Meanwhile, Katherine Muller having an outstanding race in the Laser 4.7 battled for third place against Katie Leveridge in the larger rig Laser Radial and Mike Ford in the Wanderer. Further back, Alan Comber and John Weller in the Enterprise were trying hard to move up the fleeT, with junior Steven Muller in his Topper stealthily and steadfastly gaining ground. John and Vicki Duncalf were having their usual dingdong with each other in the two Toppers and with John Buckett in the Otter. The battle at the front between Jane and Neil continued apace over the three laps with first position constantly changing. Jane finally managed to finish first, but not with enough lead to win on handicap. Third place on the water was also being hotly disputed with Mike Ford having overtaken Katie Leveridge and Katherine Muller only to be overtaken again by Katie whilst having to avoid canoeists. Results: 1st Neil Wallace and Nicky Buckett (Wayfarer) 2nd Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 3rd Stephen Muller (Topper) 4th John Buckett (Otter) 5th Katherine Muller (Laser 4.7) 6th Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 7th Mike Ford (Wanderer) 8th John Duncalf (Topper) 9th Katie Leveridge (Laser Radial) 10th Roger Heasman (Laser Radial) 11th Alan Comber and John Weller (Enterprise) John Savage (Solo), Stephanie Heasman (Topper) rtd PM: Barnwell Cup 3 Neil Wallace, Paul Whybrow and Paul Anderson all got off to a flying start towards Home 2 buoy in a brisk breeze. With all 14 dinghies closely packed on the reach to Inlet there was much shouting and hollering as the boats rounded the buoy to make for Far. Paul Whybrow's Scorpion with Stephanie Heasman crewing for the first time got the lead, closely followed by Neil and Nicky in the Wayfarer and with Paul Anderson and Simon Veal in the Lasers close on their heels. Coming back down the lake the Scorpion and the Wayfarer were still fighting hard for the lead followed by the Lasers of Paul Anderson, Katie Leveridge, Simon Veal, Roger Heasman and Stephen Muller. Next came the Toppers of John and Vicki Duncalf, John Buckett's Otter, Alan Comber and John Weller's Enterprise John Savage's Solo and Emily Veal's Topper. On lap two Neil and Nicky managed to overtake Paul's Scorpion at Far, when it had to re-take the mark. However Paul managed to regain the lead going to Dam. A large gap had by now opened up between the first three boats and the rest of the fleet. Katie Leveridge was again sailing well in her Laser Radial, holding off Simon Veal in his fully rigged Laser for fourth place. Slightly further back Stephen Muller sailing his mums Laser 4.7 for the first time was giving Roger Heasman in the Laser Radial a hard time, until a gust of wind capsized him. Once more John and Vicky Duncalf were battling with each other in their Toppers with John in the lead giving no quarter to his birthday girl. Vicky had bribed the race officer with chocolate cake to make sure she beat him! Meanwhile in the Enterprise Alan and John were enjoying a jolly around the lake in their usual good natured style, with John Savage getting valuable experience the recently re-built Solo. On the third lap, Neil and Nicky finally cemented first place after Paul and Stephanie had further problems with missed marks. In the process of the Scorpion's difficulties they also allowed Paul Anderson to squeeze past into second place.
