AM: Tamar Cup 4 With sailors away enjoying a week-end at Carrick Roads camping and offshore sailing reduced numbers took to the water up at the lake. Jane Anderson got away first with Bob Sampson and crew Liz Royal second. Unfortunately Bob soon lost position in having to make an early tack. Derek Farnfield also got a good start followed by Mary Carter and then a group of three boats together consisting of Vicki and John Duncalf and Simon Veal. Derek then proceeded to become becalmed at Dam Red buoy with Bob reclaiming second position. Bob then hoisted his spinnaker and with the RS moving well he overhauled Jane Anderson by the time they reached the start line. Vicki Duncalf then made a move on Derek by taking a good line and overtaking him the next time round Dam Red. ( Rapidly becoming Derek's least favourite part of the lake.) Derek then joined John Duncalf and Simon Veal to keep the 'gang of three' going, subsequently somehow managing to find zephrs of breeze to move past Mary and start to make ground on Vicki. With the wind dying right away the decision was taken to end the race early as Bob crossed the line for the second time. This was obviously a good decision as the gang of three had become a gaggle of five with John and Vickie Duncalf, Derek Farnfield Mary Carter and Simon Veal all finishing close together. Results: 1st Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 2nd Bob Sampson and Liz Royal (RS200) 3rd Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 4th John Duncalf (Topper) 5th Derek Farnfield (Streaker) 6th Simon Veal (Laser Radial) 7th Mary Carter (Laser Radial) PM: Ladies Cup/Junior Helm/Gosling Shield 3 Jane Anderson got off to a flying start closely followed by Vicki Duncalf and with the rest of the fleet in hot pursuit. Initially the breeze looked good and the helixors started to bubble forth. As quickly as the helixors erupted so the breeze died away creating a slow boat procession to Inlet White Buoy. The SWLT RS Vision rounded Inlet first helmed by Martha and crewed by Chris with Jane Anderson second Derek Farnfield close behind being chased down by Liz Royal helming Bob Sampson's RS200. ('Bumper Bob' on spinnaker duty.) In the rear of the fleet John and Vicki Duncalf rounded inlet mark together just behind Simon Veal and ahead of Hugh Norris in the Mirror. Mary Carter had managed to find herself in a lonely position midway between the front and back boat groups. At Far Liz and Bob had taken the lead with Jane Anderson for close company. Derek Farnfield in the Streaker was by now well ahead of the RS Vision with Simon Veal behind the Vision on the beat going up to Far. Jane Anderson took the best line to West to round well ahead of Liz Royal and crew Bob with Derek also managing still to hold station above Martha. At the start of the second lap Liz and Bob were quickly catching Jane Anderson but tacked early for Inlet whilst Jane delayed and by so doing caught a stiffer breeze and rounded the mark way ahead of the RS200. Derek managed to increase the gap to Martha whilst Mary Carter started to close on the Vision as they got to Inlet. John, Vicky and Simon all retired ant the end of the first lap which just left Hugh Norris all alone at the back. With the wind dying away and boats just about stationary Liz and Bob hoisted the spinnaker and just about caught Jane going to West. The breeze then freshened again and a fight ensued between Jane's Laser and the RS200. The course was then shortened with Jane just managing to squeak home first. Mary nearly caught the Vision and then it pulled away again when Mary suffered a sudden loss of wind. Despite the poor showing by the wind the fleet managed to put on an exciting contest.
