AM: Sailboat Trophy 4 Steve Axford (Laser) capsized coming up to the start line, righted and joined the tail end of the fleet. Young James Pollard in his Topper stayed to check Steve was OK, and consequently joined Steve in a later start. Toby Tobias in his Bosun was also slow away having had to jettison one of his crew as he was a little less confident in the gusty conditions. The fleet was soon spread out going across to West with Jane Anderson leading the field but with Nicky Buckett very close behind. Toby made good progress as he rejoined the fleet, and Steve was making his way up from the back. James went slightly adrift but nonetheless was making good progress in his first solo race. Nicky managed to open up a lead over Jane when she experienced mainsheet difficulties and had to stop, and Simon Veal with Adam crewing in the Enterprise had moved up to 4th place followed by Toby and Brian Pollard. John Chandler and Adeney Pooler (who had a large quantity of water as 'crew' in his boat), came next with John Buckett bringing up the tail. Results: 1. Nicky Buckett (Laser Radial) 2. PM: Ladies Cup, Gosling Shield, Junior Helm 2 The hottest afternoon of the year was made more bearable by a brisk southeasterly wind gusting to Force 4 at times which put foam and white horses on the water up at Far Mark. Undeterred by the first gusty race, 6 dinghies set off. First away was Jane Anderson who had changed to a smaller sail, followed by Steve Axford still with his full rig Laser. In third place was Simon and Adam in the Enterprise. At the end of the first lap Steve was in the lead followed by Jane, then Simon and Adam, then Toby and Christine, Adeney and Nicky Buckett. John Buckett managed to get up to Far Mark, but the conditions were really bad and he retired. The end of the 2nd lap saw Steve still in the lead with Jane next, then Simon, Toby and last was Adeney, and that was how the race finished at the end of the 3rd lap. Results: 1.
