PM: Barnwell Cup 1 After a very foggy, chilly and grey 'scrub-up' morning when covers and boats were washed, dried and generally coiffured ready for the new season, the sun came out just in time for lunch followed by the first race of 2011. The first intrepid sailor to launch his recently re-vamped and extremely smart looking boat was John Savage. Five other sailors joined him, and despite a rather rusty start at the beginning of the race, eventually all six got into their stride and headed down the lake. Jane Anderson, the 'birthday girl' was first away but was soon overtaken by Paul Whybrow in his Solo. The wind freshened and the fleet spread out with Paul leading from Jane Chadney who lost some time as she had to backtrack to round a missed buoy!. In a similar vein, the Bosun of Toby Tobias and Simon Veal also missed the same buoy but as it was written on Toby's hand as a 'port hand' mark he assumed he must be right!! (Unfortunately it was all the other competitors who were correct!). So not a faultless day's sailing, but all agreed it had been good to get back on the water and blow the winter cobwebs away! Results: 1 Paul Whybrow (Solo) 2 Jane Anderson (Topper) 3 Jane Chadney (Laser Radial) 4 John Savage (Solo) 5 John Duncalf (Topper) Toby Tobias and Simon Veal (rtd) - as Simon had to get off to do a car pick-up. Thanks to Vicki Duncalf for RO duties, and to Bob Sampson and Roger Heasman for Safety Boat Duties. We all had smiles on our faces at the end of the afternoon!
