AM: Equinoctial 2 High drama occurred just before the 5 minute hooter. The wind speed suddenly instantly increased almost to gale force, causing Stephanie Heasman to capsize with the boat quickly turning turtle and almost trapping her. Nicky Buckett immediately decided that she was overpowered and wisely headed for the shore, closely followed by Mike Ford and John Buckett in the Bosun. This left only three boats to start the race with Steve Axford getting an absolute flyer off the line followed by Jane Anderson and Roger Heasman. Luckily as the first lap ended the weather subsided with Steve having established a huge lead. Roger Heasman managed to overtake Jane Anderson but could not establish a big enough distance between them, so as to overcome Jane's dinghy handicap advantage. Results: 1st Steve Axford (Laser Radial) 2nd Jane Anderson (Topper) 3rd Roger Heasman (Laser 4.7) PM: Tamar 1 With the wind once again strong, five boats contested the start. Roger Heasman got away well and led heading to the first buoy, however his joy was short lived as Steve Axford quickly took command at the front. Jane Anderson battled early on with Vicki Duncalf before establishing a solid third position. This left Mike Ford and John Buckett in the Bosun to chase down and pass Vicki on the water. On handicap, Steve Axford again mastered the fleet whilst Jane Anderson just pipped Roger Heasman and Vicki beat Mike and John. Results: 1st Steve Axford (Laser Radial) 2nd Jane Anderson (Topper) 3rd Roger Heasman (Laser 4.7) 4th Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 5th Mike Ford and John Buckett (Bosun) Thanks to John Chandler for officer of the day duties in both races and Bob Sampson and John Savage for braving cold conditions and lake hazards in the safety boat.
