AM: Sailboat Trophy 2 After a very slow start in the light airs, Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) and Adam Hilton (Solo) led the fleet to the first mark at Home 1. But it wasn't long before Bob Sampson with crew James Pollard in their RS200 had their asymmetric spinnaker up and flying and grabbed the front position to Zebra and |nlet marks. With overcast skies it looked like the wind would remain flat, but not long after the start little puffs started to cross the water and the back end of the fleet started to catch up as they all made their way across the lake to West mark, then up to Pinky before heading back down to the start line again for the 2nd lap. The wind became a bit of an issue with the gust directions oscillating rapidly as they came across the lake, keeping sailors on their toes to make the most of their sail settings. John Buckett in his Otter reported that it took him 4 minutes to round Inlet mark on the 2nd lap as the wind just died on him. Whilst it was proving to be a great sailing morning for Sue Murray in her Topper Topaz, it was not a good day for the smaller Toppers and Vicki Duncalf, after struggling for 2 laps, decided to call it a day when she was lapped by Jane who was crossing the line to finsih! Alan Comber and John Weller sailed well in their Enterprise and chased Adam to the finish line. Adam then reported that he'd missed a couple of marks out and so retired. Results: 1. Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 2. Sue Murray (Topper Topaz) 3. Bob Sampson and James Pollard (RS200) 4. John Buckett (Otter) 5. Alan Comber and John Weller (Enterprise) 6. John Savage (Solo) 7. Toby Tobias and David Higgs (Bosun) Vicki Duncalf (Topper) and Adam Hilton (Solo) rtd. Many thanks to John Leveridge for RO duties and writing this report. PM: Ladies, Junior and Gosling Shield Race 1. The afternoon race is a combined 3 cups sailed for in one race series and 10 boats took to the water for this event. In a fresher breeze the fleet got off to a clear start with Sue Murray, Jane Anderson and Jane Chadney (Laser Radial) leading the way down the lake to Home 1 again. The fleet spread out evenly playing follow-my-leader right back up the lake, but the beat to Inlet white saw the faster boats moving up the fleet and James Pollard in the RS200 with Bob crewing, making very good ground. At the end of the first lap James lay in 3rd place to Jane Anderson and Jane Chadney. Toby Tobias with returning member David Higgs, was doing very well and lay 4th staying ahead of Stuart Mealing in his Laser Radial and Sue Murray who was having another excellent race. In the middle of the fleet Alan Comber was having a good race with the accompanying Solos. By the end of the 2nd lap Jane Anderson had pulled out an invincible lead from James and Jane Chadney who had swapped places, but Adam Hilton wasn't having such a good time as he hit a naughty gust, capsized and promptly retired! After calculating the handicaps for all the boats the results were as follows: Results: 1. Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 2. Jane Chadney (Laser Radial) 3. Sue Murray (Topper Topaz) 4. Toby Tobias and David Higgs (Bosun) 5. James Pollard and Bob Sampson (RS200) 6. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 7. Stuart Mealing (Laser Radial) 8. John Savage (Solo) 9. Alan Comber and John Weller (Enterprise) Adam Hilton (Solo) rtd Many thanks to Paul Whybrow for looking after the afternoon's racing and writing this report. We also wish to welcome back David Higgs who left us for a while, but is now keen to start sailing his Laser again. And finally, a big pat on the back to Stuart Mealing who had a big smile on his face at the end of the race as, after several frustrating races where he'd gone wrong, he'd not only completed the race but had gone round all the buoys all in the right order! Well done Stuart!
