AM: Barnwell Cup 1

Only a minimalist report available for this race.  Vicki went the wrong side of Home 1 
and subsequently retired, staying out on the water to gain more experience with her 
Laser, taking care to stay out of the way of racing boats.  Mary Carter was out in new 
sails in her Laser and these certainly made a noticeable difference, with Mary pushing 
Simon hard for fourth place.  Adeney also had a good race in the Graduate, with the 
gentler breezes allowing him to keep the boat flat.

PM: Tamar Memorial Trophy 3

With the wind still blowing out of the South East, the afternoon race start saw the 
gathered sailors lining up on the mid-lake startline. Paul Whybrow was the first over 
the line at the signal but Jane Anderson quickly passed him to take over the lead. The 
sea breeze had risen up just before the start and, as this opposed the standing breeze, 
had a tendency to make the wind direction back and veer, meaning several helms had 
to put a number of tacks in to reach Dam Green.  Jane rounded first followed by Paul, 
Jane Chadney and Simon Veal. The helms started to string out more as the race 
progressed with Mike Ford leading the 2nd group, peleton-style. The tussle for the lead 
of the third group between Alan Comber, with John Weller as crew, and John Savage 
was interesting to watch. The Enterprise had raced ahead to Dam Green only to be 
caught by the Solo on the turn. Bringing up the rear, John Duncalf and Sue Murray 
were engaged in a Topper class duel. 

Jane Anderson continued to lengthen her lead on the lake, followed closely by Paul 
Whybrow. Mary Carter had a fine race finishing 14 seconds behind Simon Veal, with 
Vicki Duncalf hot on her heels. Sue Murray managed to get the better of John Duncalf 
in the Topper duel on this occasion.
