AM: Tamar Cup 2
 
On a dull and windy day 6 brave sailors took to the water for the noon race.  Even before the 
start, Toby Tobias had capsized his Bosun, even though he was using an Otter mainsail 
which is smaller.  First away at the start was Jane Anderson (Topper) followed by Bob 
Sampson (Laser 4.7), Vicki Duncalf (Topper), Steve Axford (Laser Radial) and then John 
Savage (Solo).  Toby decided to retire due to his mishap.  Around Inlet mark for the first time 
Bob was in the lead.
 
At the end of the first lap Steve was leading followed by Bob, Jane, Vicky and John; at the 
end of the 2nd lap Steve was first, Bob 2nd (only 40 seconds behind), then Jane, Vicky and 
John.  All sailors were able to master the sudden gusts that appeared frequently.  At the end 
of the 3rd lap Stave was now 110 seconds ahead of Bob who was sailing with the smaller 4.7 
sail.  John Savage retired half way through his third lap due to the gusty conditions.  The 
order of finishing was Steve 1st, Bob 2nd, Jane 3rd, Vicki 4th, but after calculating the results 
and applying the handicaps the winner was Jane, followed by Bob, Steve and Vicki.

PM: Cup Race 2
 
Five sailors took to the water for the afternoon race with winds which had moderated quite a 
bit.  Bob had exchanged his 4.7 for the gutsy Radial Sail to compete with Steve.  First away at 
the start was Jane, then Steve, Bob, Vicki and John.  The order after the first lap was Steve, 
Bob, Jane, Vicki then John; after the 2nd lap Steve, Bob Jane, John and Vicki.  The race 
being fairly relaxed with no major wind issues to worry about, in fact the Toppers were finding 
it a bit dull and slow at times!!  The race ended after 4 laps with Steve first, then Bob, Jane, 
John and Vicki.  After the usual calculations the results were Steve 1st, Bob 2nd, Jane 3rd, 
Vicki 4th then John 5th.  Just 12 seconds separated the first 3 places after a 45 minute race!
