AM: Sailboat Trophy. A strong wind brought 8 hardy sailors onto the water. Bob Sampson in his RS200 gained good ground and rounded the West mark ahead of the chasing pack. As the boats returned to Dam mark Bob was still ahead with Simon Veal (Laser) and Jane Chadney (Laser 4.7) battling for second place. John Buckett and Toby Tobias kept a close watch from the safety boat in case help was quickly required. All the boats had to tack up to Far mark but a slight change in wind direction during the race caused helms to change their tactics somewhat. Bob with crew James Pollard found the conditions suited them perfectly and pulled out a good lead of nearly a quarter of a lap from Simon in second and Jane Chadney in third. Jane Anderson (Laser 4.7) was 300 m behind and was being followed by Stuart Mealing in his Laser Radial. Adeney Pooler (Graduate stole a place from Vicki Duncalf (Topper) during the second lap and then pulled ahead by 200m taking advantage of the lighter winds. Vicki was still well placed to keep ahead of Adam Hilton in his 420 who appeared to be enjoying the racing experience. With a final flourish and the spinnaker flying Bob and James arrived at the final Dam mark. Simon finished in second in a relaxed style. The two Janes fought for second and third places as they headed down the lake with Jane A finishing a third of a boat length ahead. Stuart kept a polite distance behind the ladies and finished in a good 5th position. Adeney's lone sail finished him in 6th place. Vicki and Adam finished in fine form in 7th and 8th places respectively. Results: 1. Jane Anderson (Laser 4.7) 2. Jane Chadney (Laser 4.7) 3. Bob Sampson and James Pollard (RS200) 4. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 5. Simon Veal (Laser) 6. Stuart Mealing (Laser Radial) 7. Adeney Pooler (Graduate) Adam Hilton (420) rtd. PM: Frostbite 7 Stuart headed for the start at a slick pace but decided he may be too soon so did a neat 360* turn to avoid a penalty. All the boats made a clean getaway using the best of a lighter but colder wind. James and Bob were the first to finish the first lap with Jane Anderson in close proximity. Following on Paul Whybrow (Solo) and Jane Chadney in 3rd and 4th with Adeney a close 5th. Vicki was just ahead of Stuart who brought up the back of the fleet, but was determined not to remain there! Toby and John B kept a watching brief on all the sailors from the safety boat. Unfortunately Stuart passed the Home mark the wrong wide and had to double back. This was then followed by equipment failure which put him out of the race. Meanwhile, the remaining fleet continued up to Far mark. Paul and Jane Anderson swapped positions during the 2nd lap and there was nothing behind them as they passed the line. Adeney enjoyed a lively manoeuvre around the Inlet mark and came about with grace and poise! The light but steady wind led to a very enjoyable final race of the year. At the finish James retained his lead, Paul pulled away 300m ahead of Jane in her smaller sail, Jane Chadney finished next followed a few seconds later by Adeney. Vicki brought up the rear of the fleet in the fading light of a cold but sunny Autumn afternoon. Next race is the Boxing Day Christmas Pudding Race! Results: 1. Paul Whybrow (Solo) 2. Jane Anderson (Laser 4.7) 3. Jane Chadney (Laser 4.7) 4. James Pollard and Bob Sampson (RS200) 5. Adeney Pooler (Graduate) 6.
